THE MASKS

In this room you will find the family portraits of the "Changing Stories Children". Their ancestral lineage begins with the Pharohs of ancient Eqypt, and includes noted saints, sinners, astronauts and thespians.

Genevieve "Genevieve" The soul of Genevieve is an enduring theme throughout the entire book of the Changing Stories Child. Her subtle malleable nature forms the foundation for all the female characters and their apsects which evolve with unveiling theatrical circumstance. She may appear in multiple versions. Many times changing colors dramatically, symbollically illustrates her shifting moods and perspectives. At first, a pure white turns to gold, then to rose, and blue shifting to brilliant yellow and once red. Her face may be muted with textural properties or intricate painted designs. However the motif of color or form, it is central to her nature and that determines the path growth for all other characters in this saga. Genevieve began before these masks came into existence in this art work, serving as a vehicle for character expressions. Then she was a poem, an outlook, a voice in a dream, a relationship experience, an intangible source which lunged from my heart to manifest this drama of the supernatural impacting my existence. This particular face of Genevieve was created in Paris in the fall of 1980 and was the first concrete step of character extension beyond the open doorways of American Suites. My inspiration was greatly influenced by the charmed romantic music and lyrics of Texas composer, songwriter, Gary P. Nunn and his original version of "Kara Lee".

Ploom "Ploom" Ploom is the reflective male personae of Genevieve, and as mutable as she in the scheme of things. Their encounters often have orgins in the communal dream where the face of characters and personality are adapted to unconscious needs. The vast nature of their souls creates a drama of cultural proportion. In this primary version, Ploom is adrift in the child's mind with this expression adopted from the painting of the same name by Giorgio Di Chirico.

"Changing Stories Child" The first two mask identities are the roots of all the action that follows. Many personality aspects were revealed before the trunk of the family was exposed. This mask, "The Changing Stories Child" was created in 1982, more than ten years after the drama began taking place. The Child appeared as the answer to the ultimate question posed on each stage. Who was this mythical child speaking from heart to heart. Son, on one day; the next, Daughter. Who is it? The exact fact of gender was determined with absolute certainty. This mask tells the whole truth is in between. We are all the children simultaneously. With that resolved, the party marches on.
